Doug Hudson

Doug HudsonMr. Hudson is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Simplex Healthcare, Inc. Prior to launching Simplex, Mr. Hudson founded and was the Chairman and CEO of HearingPlanet, Inc. which, under his leadership, became the largest online hearing aid distributer in the United States with over 1,100 locations. Mr. Hudson holds a B.S. from Eckerd College and an M.B.A from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management.
Ryan Drant

Ryan DrantRyan joined NEA in 1996, and became a General Partner in 2004. He specializes in healthcare investments in the specialty pharma, medical device and healthcare information technology sectors. Present board memberships include BENU, Carticept Medical, Concentric Medical, ExploraMed III, ForHealth Technologies, Intrinsic Therapeutics, Neotract, PatientKeeper, Simplex Diabetic Supply, Spine Wave, Viacor and Vibrynt. Ryan also co-manages NEA's investment in TriVascular2. Past board memberships include ESP Pharma (acquired by Protein Design Labs, Inc.), Esprit Pharma (acquired by Allergan), FoxHollow Technologies (NASDAQ: FOXH), Provation Medical (acquired by Wolters Kluwer), and Proxima Therapeutics (acquired by Cytyc Corporation), and Ryan co-led NEA’s investment in Xcel Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Valeant Pharmaceuticals, Inc.). Prior to joining NEA, Ryan was with the Health Care Investment Banking Group of Alex. Brown & Sons in San Francisco. Previously, he worked in the San Francisco office of Arthur Andersen & Co. Ryan received a BA from Stanford University.
Chip Linehan

Chip LinehanChip joined NEA in 1992 as an Associate, became a Partner in 1997, and a General Partner in 2004. Chip specializes in healthcare investments, primarily in the healthcare services and healthcare IT areas. He participated in the founding and incubation of Bravo Health. Current board memberships include American Pathology Partners, Bariatric Partners, Bravo Health, Elance, Simplex Diabetic Supply, Subacute Holdings, Ulthera and Vantage Oncology. His prior board memberships include, among others, CHG Healthcare Services, Atomz, Informative, Long Term Care Group and ppoNEXT. In the past, Chip has also worked closely with AMERIGROUP, AMISYS, Informative and Scandipharm. Chip received a BA (cum laude) from Harvard University.
Rich Whitney

Rich WhitneyRich joined NEA in January 2007 as Venture Partner focusing on healthcare investments. He is the founder and Managing Member of Whitney Capital LLC, a private equity investment firm focused primarily on healthcare services and products. Previously, Rich served as Executive Chairman of Specialty Labs where he led the turnaround and successful sale of the company. Earlier, he served as Chief Financial Officer of DaVita, Inc where he was a lead executive in the company’s financial and operating turnaround which created over $3 billion of equity value for investors. Rich earned a Master's of Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a BS in Business Administration from Pennsylvania State University.
David Katzman

David KatzmanDavid Katzman is the Managing Partner for Camelot Ventures and Vice Chairman of Quicken Loans, the nation’s largest online direct mortgage lender. He also is a majority owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA basketball team and the Lake Erie Monsters AHL hockey team. Some of his past and current investments have included Lens 1st, Lens Express and 1-800-Contacts; Fathead, Flash Seats, ePrize, Kintana, Rawlings Sporting Goods; National Blinds & Wallpaper, Realage.com and Red Envelope. Katzman formerly served on the board of 1-800-Contacts (NASDAQ - CTAC) the largest direct to consumer contact lens company in the world. Katzman earned a B.A. in accounting/finance at Michigan State University and attended Detroit College of Law for his graduate work.
Ben Sasse

David KatzmanDr. Ben Sasse served as U.S. assistant secretary of health and human services from 2007 to 2009. Nominated by President Bush and unanimously confirmed by the Democratic Senate to the fourth-ranking position in the government's largest-budget agency, Dr. Sasse led policy, planning, and research functions across the department's 11 operating divisions, with a special focus on Medicare, Medicaid, and the Food and Drug Administration. Prior to this, Dr. Sasse served as counselor for policy and strategic initiatives to former HHS Secretary Michael Leavitt and as chief of staff to U.S. Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (Nebraska). Prior to that, he was chief of staff to U.S. Assistant Attorney General Daniel Bryant. Ben was educated at Harvard, Oxford, and St. John's (Annapolis) before receiving his Ph.D. from Yale.
